Definitions

Data Recovery

The process of retrieving/restoring data that has been lost, corrupted, deleted, or otherwise made inaccessible. This process involves using specialized software to scan, identify, and restore the data to a usable format or original state. 

Diagnostic 

A set or series of testing and/or procedures conducted to arrive at a diagnosis for a specific symptom. In this particular case (that is, the patient being a pc or device) the tests and/or procedures are software-based. 

Drive-erase

The process of permanently deleting all data from a storage device making it unrecoverable. This process involves using specialized software to repeatedly overwrite the data on all sectors of the device thus ensuring that it cannot be accessed. 

End User License Agreement (EULA)

A contract between a software producer and the eventual user (i.e., end-user) of the product which specifies the terms and conditions of use. 

Error Code/Message

A numeric or alphanumeric identification that indicates an error or problem within a system, software, or hardware. Error codes provide a standardized way of identifying and classifying errors thereby making it easier to understand the nature of the problem.

Information Technology

The use of technology to create, store, transmit, and manipulate information. This includes the hardware, software and infrastructure needed to do so. 

Remote Service

Technology that allows the connection of one pc or device to another from any location with an internet connection. 

System Rebuild

A procedure in which the system is either restored to a previous state, reset to the original factory settings, or completely reinstalled. 

Threat Assessment

A process used to identify, evaluate, and prioritize potential threats as related to cybersecurity. This process requires specialized software and techniques.
